Software-guided surgery begins before any incision has been made. The software allows the surgeon to plan and simulate joint replacement, recommends size and position of the artificial implant based on individual anatomy and helps to aim at proper alignment of the new implant.
Naturally, while your surgeon is using intra-operative software-guided surgery tools, you would be under anesthesia. It may be interesting and perhaps comforting, however, to know the basic steps involved in a software-guided hip replacement procedure.
