Beau Biden, son of Vice President Joe Biden, recently lost his battle with brain cancer. While it is uncertain which type of tumor took Biden’s life, it is believed to be a glioblastoma multiforme (GBM).
Glioblastomas are aggressive tumors that present treatment challenges due to location, resistance to conventional therapy, the brain’s capacity to repair, migration into adjacent brain tissue, blood supply, fluid accumulation around the tumor, limited response to therapy and potential neurotoxicity of most treatments. Multi-disciplinary cancer care teams can oftentimes use a combination of techniques, including image guided surgery; stereotactic radiosurgery and chemotherapy which offers the potential to prolong lives and improve quality of life. Factors that contribute to the development of glioblastomas is still unclear, but to learn more about potential factors here >> http://www.newsinferno.com/death-of-beau-biden-puts-spotlight-on-brain-cancer/
